St. Alexandra of Rome Stained Glass

St. Alexandra of Rome was the wife of Emperor Diocletian. She is also sometimes known as Priscilla or Prisca. Unknown to her husband she was secretly a Christian. When her husband ordered the torture and persecution of St. George in the arena, Alexandra went and kneeled before St. George, confessing her faith publicly. This so enraged her husband that he ordered her to be beheaded in the year 303 AD. She was martyred along with hundreds of others who came to faith through watching the martyrdom of St. George. Her feast day is April 23rd. In sacred art, including stained glass windows, the empress, and martyr St. Alexandra is usually depicted wearing her crown.
