St. Cajetan

In 1480 in Italy a boy called Gaetano dei Conti di Tiene was born to Lord Gaspar and Mary Porter. In later life he became known as St. Cajetan. He was a Catholic priest and religious reformer who founded the Theatines together with four companions. St. Cajetan was concerned about spiritual healing and he endeavoured to bring together the spirit of monasticism and practical ministry to the sick and dying. He also founded a bank for the poor to help them escape from the high interest of the usurers. This later became the Bank of Naples. St. Cajetan was beatified in 1629 and canonized in 1671. He is commemorated on his feast day which is August 7th. He is the patron saint of workers, gamblers, job seekers and the unemployed, Albania, Italy, Malta, Argentina, Brazil, El Salvador and Guatemala.
