St. Christina

St. Christina of Bolsena is also known as Christina of Tyre or Christina the Great Martyr. She is venerated as an Italian Christian virgin and martyr of the third century AD. She was the daughter of a wealthy pagan man named Urbanus. He wanted Christina to become a pagan priestess and tried to force her to worship idols. Christina however stood firm in her Christian faith and destroyed the idols of gold and silver. This infuriated her father who then tortured and persecuted his daughter terribly. Throughout all of this God protected St. Christina, and she outlived her cruel father, only to be further tortured by his successor. Eventually she died, earning the martyrs crown. In stained glass art St. Christina can be seen wearing the martyrs crown and dressed in a golden robe. Her feast day is celebrated with a memorial on July 24th.
