St. Alexander Stained Glass

St. Alexander was born in the second century AD. He was imprisoned for his faith during the reign of Roman emperor Severus, and when he was released, he went to Jerusalem and became coadjutor with St. Narcissus, the Bishop of Jerusalem. St. Alexander built a library at Jerusalem. In his old age, he was taken as a prisoner to Caesarea where he survived despite being tortured severely. When he was thrown to the wild beasts they refused to devour him and instead licked his feet. Eventually, he died in prison in 251 AD. St. Alexander is venerated as a saint and martyr both by the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. His feast day is March 18th.
