St. Vincent Ferrer

Vincent Ferrer was a Spanish saint of the fourteenth century. He became a Dominican friar and travelled as a missionary to England, Scotland, Ireland, Aragon, Castile, France, Switzerland, and Italy. Many people were converted by his preaching of the Gospel. St. Vincent was described as a man of medium height, with fair hair which was tonsured. He had very dark eyes, a strong voice and a gentle manner. He died in France in 1419 at the age of sixty-nine. His feast day is April 5th and he is invoked for aid in storms and is the patron saint of orphanages, builders, plumbers and fisherman. The symbols of St. Vincent include a tongue of flame, a pulpit, a trumpet, wings and a Bible. Some of these may be included in stained glass windows of St. Vincent.
