St. Rose Venerini

Rose Venerini was born in Italy in 1656, the daughter of a physician. As a young woman she entered a convent for a few months, but then returned home after the death of her father. She began teaching the girls in her neighborhood and one thing led to another until she had founded the Religious Teachers Venerini, also called the Venerini Sisters. St. Rose is regarded as a pioneer of education for girls and women in the seventeenth century. By the time she died at the age of seventy-two she had opened more than forty schools. In 1909 the Venerini Sisters travelled to the USA where they worked amongst the Italian immigrants, establishing daycare centers in many cities. They subsequently spread to many other countries including Switzerland, India, Albania, Romania, Brazil, Cameroon, Nigeria, Chile and Venezuela. St. Rose Venerini was canonized in 2006 and her feast day is May 7th. Perhaps you would like to purchase a stained glass window or door panel of St. Rose for your daycare center or nursery?
