St. Augustine of Hippo

With over a hundred churches in the USA named after him, St. Augustine is a well-known and loved saint who brings hope and inspiration to many. Stained glass and other church artworks show him in various moments of his life, either with his mother Monica, at his conversion in the garden or writing at his desk. As the patron saint of brewers, St. Augustine is a strong example of one who turned from loose living and became a devout follower of God. His powerful conversion is a beacon of hope to those struggling with bad habits and vices. After his conversion and baptism, he became a priest, bishop, writer, and is one of the greatest saints that ever lived. The words “Here we do not speak evil of anyone” were written in large letters on the wall of his room. He died in the year 430 AD and his Feast day is August 28th.
